Nonionic PAM may be screened in acidic or weakly ionic industrial suspensions where adsorption and bridging are preferred over a strongly charged polymer. The treatment sequence must first create solids that can actually be separated.
Stabilize the chemical baseline
Record source process, pH, conductivity, temperature, suspended solids and relevant dissolved constituents. If neutralization or metal precipitation is required, establish that reaction before polymer comparison.
Extra polymer cannot correct incomplete precipitation. Use blank and coagulant-only controls and measure the regulated or process endpoint, not visual clarity alone.
Run a controlled polymer screen
Keep pH, coagulant, rapid mixing and settling time fixed while comparing nonionic and relevant ionic products. Dose on active mass, observe floc growth and shear, and measure supernatant, sludge volume and filtration.
Map the useful range rather than reporting one successful jar. Feed chemistry may move between production batches.
Prepare the plant trial
Record injection point, residence, separator, sludge withdrawal and downstream filter behavior. Send pH range, chemistry, current treatment, target, flow, demand and destination with the sample request.
